grey's nursery

Yes, I do still have this blog! I have so many things I want to write about (including Grey's birth story), but it's so hard to find time to do it all! I'll start with his nursery and let the photos do most of the talking!

I love how his room turned out. It's so bright and clean...and was pretty cheap too! Most of the items in the room were either made by me, refurbished, or were things we already had. The room was already painted white because it used to be my office so that was one less thing to check off our to do list!

I painted the two items on the left and made the yarn wall hanging.

These shelves were already hanging in my office. They were filled with books, but we took the majority of them down. I still have a few other items I want to add to them, but still haven't yet!

This was a family globe that I've had and I added the lettering. Originally, I had planned to use this in Crew's room when he was born, but we ran out of space!

The mobile is actually something I didn't make! It was from Nifty Neat on Etsy. The shop owner is so friendly and helpful! Be sure to check them out!

Pillow was on clearance at Target and chair was from Amazon | Black blackout curtains from Amazon

Crib is from Ikea and I made the green tassels. Inspired from here

I painted the lettered statement wall inspired from A Beautiful Mess
"i love you in the morning and in the afternoon. i love you in the evening and underneath the moon."

The blue dresser was purchased from Craigslist for around $60, I believe. I painted it blue and polished the brass hardware. It's one of my favorite things in the room!

Changing pad cover from KB Cute on Etsy

The door hanger was made by my brother, Cody, his fiance, Brittney, and my mom for our hospital stay!

Faux sheepskin rug from Amazon

The card catalog was something we already had in my office. There was no way I was getting rid of it! It was from the library at the church where my parents grew up and were married. I love it!

There are still two things I've painted that we haven't hung on the wall yet. One day! There's also a piece on the wall next to the closet from friends and it reads "The best thing about me is you." Love it!

lately

We've been pretty busy lately trying to prepare for Crew. From decorating the nursery, cleaning and grocery shopping, it's kept me pretty worn out! Hopefully it's just making the time go by faster though!

This was last Sunday after going to church where my grandparents are members, my parents grew up (& got married), and where I went when I was little - They celebrated 100 years as a church! (37 weeks)

We got the carseat installed and ready to go!...with the help of Remi of course. (37 weeks, 1 day)

Last Friday night we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant with Tyler and Amanda. I asked for the spiciest thing they had to try and urge Crew to come out...must not have been spicy enough because he's still not here! (37 weeks, 5 days)

Tiffany and baby Elliott sent the sweetest gifts to Crew this past weekend. I can't wait to use it all! I love blog friends! (37 weeks, 6 days)

Will gave his first pedicure last weekend also! He did pretty good for his first time! (Thank goodness because I can hardly reach my toes!) (37 weeks, 6 days)

We got home from the grocery last night and realized how many apple things I wanted to buy. I guess I'm craving it?! Weird thing is, I don't even like apples that much normally. (38 weeks, 1 day)

That's pretty much all that has been going on around here. We are so ready to meet Crew and cannot believe it's almost time! I (still) have not packed our hospital bags, but it is on the to do list for the next few days. My last day of work before maternity leave is tomorrow or Thursday so hopefully I'll have a few days to rest...and finish all we have to do...before our sweet baby gets here. BUT if he wants to come before our list is completed, that's fine too! I keep thinking things like, "this could be our last Tuesday as just Will and Courtney." It's so crazy to think our son will be here any day now!

Old Door Turned Coffee Table

WARNING: This is a long post!

One of my best friends, Brooke ("Bennett") asked Will & I at the beginning of the year if we would convert an old door into a coffee table for her. We (obviously) said yes! We had never done this before but figured it couldn't be that hard. I mean, you've pretty much just have to slap some legs on it, right? Well, it ended up being more complicated than that and took much, much longer to complete than we had thought, but I think that the final product turned out great! First, we had to find a door. I know from being an antique store-aholic that I had seen old doors selling from about the $175 and up price range. Luckily, Bennett had another option. Her husband owns a property management company and he just happened to have some old doors lying around at his office. What's even cooler is that his office is on historic Broad Ave. in Memphis and the door that Bennett ended up picking out was the original door from his office building. So it was pretty old! Will did pretty much all of the hard work. I helped paint and re-did the fixtures, but Will worked so hard on it! Unfortunately we totally forgot to take a picture of the door before we started on it, but you can pretty much understand what an old door looks like.

After finding the perfect door, Will ended up cutting off about 2 feet from the bottom. It was a really tall door and that part ended up being rotten wood anyway so it worked out. That way we were able to make the door even on all sides. Below is the first photo of the door that we took. This was after Will had sanded off a bunch of old, white paint. This took a pretty good while to do in order to get down to the original wood surface. We ended up not even sanding the bottom because you weren't going to see it anyway. We weren't going to paint the bottom either, but it turned out that you could see some of the bottom's white paint from the top windows. Another aspect that ended up being the most frustrating thing was trying to get all of the windows clean! It gets me frustrated just thinking about it!! It was so hard to scrape off all of that old paint from the windows.
Front of the door-after sanding

Bottom of the door-pretty much exactly what the front looked like!

After Will had done a lottttt of scraping on the windows
This is the paint we used. I probably wouldn't use it again if I had the option. It was some kind of Gel-Flow technology that I wasn't a fan of.
Painting over the old paint on the bottom!

Working hard!
After spraying the door fixtures with primer--Forgot to take a Before photo of those as well. They were all yucky old brass.

After putting the legs on and in the process of painting the top.
Finished product!!

We ended up using cedar 4x4's for the legs and support beams. All we did was put 3 coats of Polycrylic on them so they will hold their color. I think it turned out great!

The knocker! After they were primed I used Antique Brass spray paint

My favorite!

Here it is in Bennett's living room!
This is a photo she sent me a few days after we dropped it off!

So what do you think?!
